Take Stock in Children to Hold First Annual Scholarship Bike Ride, Cycling for Success

March 20 2004--Cyclists from Alachua, Columbia, Indian River, Lee, Leon, Madison, Marion, Osceola, and Taylor Countues will ride 200 miles over two days from Ocala to Tallahassee to show support for Take Stock in Children's long-term commitment to ensuring its students' academic and personal success.

Cycling for Success participants raised funds to purchase scholarships for deserving, low-income children in their communities. All monies raised stay within the community in which the rider lives to help the local Take Stock in Children program purchase scholarships with a dollar-for-dollar match from the Florida Prepaid College Foundation.

Take Stock in Children is a nonprofit organization that provides college tuition scholarships and caring adult mentors to deserving public school students throughout the state of Florida. It is a comprehensive plan of success for selected students in communities statewide who sign a contract before entering high school pledging to maintain good grades and school attendance, to stay out of trouble and off drugs, and to meet once a week with a mentor. In return, Take Stock in Children provides a college tuition scholarship, volunteer mentor, student advocate, tutoring, and long-term support to its scholars.
